Much like my spoon rests. My Garlic graters for this run were a bit of an oversite. I had seen variation of these items online and in some shops, but I hadn’t thought to have a go myself. Well eventually a lovely woman at my local market asked me to make her one. I said absolutely and that id have it ready in a few weeks for her.

As soon as I had made one, I was determined that I would make some for this occasion.

thrown on the wheel with a blended local clay and is glazed with a white gloss. The high iron content gives these pieces their speckled effect and adds an orange tinge to the glaze.

Stoneware Mug
$50.00

White gloss

Dimensions: 80mm H x 130 W

(Dimensions may vary very slightly between pieces received)

Mugs a perhaps my favorite item to make from clay. I have been attached to this object since the first day making with clay as a material.

Apart of this attachment comes from my attachment to the idea of ritual. I’m very interested in how we create rituals out of everyday life and how household objects inform this practice. Mugs represent this perfectly and as such hold a special p[lace in our homes and hearts.

These pieces are made from blended local clay and coated with a white gloss glaze. The higher iron content of the clay created a speckled effect and adds an orange tinge to the pieces.

Stoneware Candle Holder
$65.00

Piha Matte

Dimensions: 85mm H x 120mm W
(Dimensions may vary very slightly between pieces received)

I started making these items after returning from a trip to Germany. My partner and I were visiting family and come back for Christmas. This time of year, southwest Germany is truly beautiful. Castles lit up with Christmas lights and the outside cold pushing you towards the fire pace to share stories, good food, and warm drinks.

When returning to New Zealand I began making work for a local Gallery on the west coast of Auckland and I wanted to capture that same feeling of the elements bringing people together.

Piha is a rugged black sand landscape in the Waitakere ranges. Using materials dug from local sources and blended with white stoneware the clay brings soft pink and red tones creating a surface that speaks of the environment from which it has come. It has been glazed with a white matte glaze to extenuate for form beneath.
